Sights such as these must make any sane God fearing person hang his head in shame. A few hours ago, the same idol was being revered, in company of blaring music and the final aati, amidst fanfare and the organisers taking pride in showing off their wear and facial make up plastered with Gulal. What has been left behind after the ceremony of visarjan should make them and others involved in the ceremony feel guilty of having violated basic sence of sanity and discipline. Inspite of NMC's arrangements to separate the Nirmalya from the idol, we thumb our nose and do away with the idol along with its paraphemalia. It takes very little effort, but even that we arrogantly refuse to do. We call ourselves educated, taeke pride in belonging to noble class of people and this is hat we leave behinding to a noble class of people and this is what we leave behind.

A room without books is like a body without soul.

Books are vast sources of knowledge. They are sacred as well as holy. - They form one’s conscience and help people develop their notion of right and wrong. - Soul of a body prevents the being from becoming a savage or cannibal. In the same way books bring virtue to a structure or room. - Books play a vital role in one’s education and constitute a major part in one’s life.

Course vs College – Which one should you choose?

The admission season arrives and with it arrives the confusion in students - whether to chase their dream and pursue the course of their choice or opt for a good college even if it means foregoing the course of their interest. Different set of people have different opinions. Here we bring to you the arguments from both the groups: Choose the course of your choice - The environment and the premises of a good college while compromising on the course of your interest might elate you for some months but will ultimately make you depressed when you are not able to perform well or find the subject interesting. - Those who perform well in their course and possess a good knowledge are valued in the market even if they come from a mediocre college.

Should Indian weddings become a bit less noisy?

It is a whole new series of festivals in Indian weddings, series because it usually lasts for a whole week at least. The big fat Indian wedding is not an occasion meant for a single day. Western world is left wondering why we need weeks for a wedding. We need to show off. We need to shout our lungs out till the entire city knows someone somewhere is getting married. Yes, we won't call it a wedding unless crackers have been burst to some serious extent leaving the environment hazy with smoke and the DJ would be made to yell his enthusiasm out (on behalf of the families) in a loudspeaker. No wonders in Pune few months back, National Green Tribunals (NGT) was offended and decided to put severe restrictions on live bands, DJ music, band processions on road, crackers and other noisy elements which we happily call wedding celebrations. Shouldn't the entire nation adopt this less noisy wedding celebration curriculum?

FDI in Retail - Will really affect the farmers of India? - Group Discussion (06-26-2012) For - Farmers might have to shut down their farms due to corporatization of the farming sector. - It has divided India’s social, political and trading classes. It works on the “divide and rule” concept. - It would mean depreciation of Indian money which will have a negative impact on the economy. - The retailers will have an enormous control over their suppliers and indirectly affecting the farmers. - This kind of structure would result in reduced farm prices and thus, closure of farms. - It will have disastrous consequences on the Indian farmers as buyers will have total control over the sellers according to this policy.

Should we really create new IITs?

IITs are 'institutions of national importance' established by Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. After India got its Independence, the world was changing. The leaders were able to envisage coming of ' Age of technology 'rather than capital. After Kharagpur became first IIT,different IITs were established that are scattered in different parts of country to maintain regional balance. IITs are internationally respected for the quality of their graduates and teaching. IITs receive comparatively higher grants than any other engineering colleges in India. They have advantage in terms of faculty-to-student ratio which is between 1:6 and 1:8. The autonomous nature of IITs gives them the freedom to create their own curricula and adapt rapidly to the changes in educational requirements, free from bureaucratic hurdles. The government has no direct control over internal policy decisions of IITs.

Primary education is losing its importance in the time of growing IIT’s and IIM’s and the efforts made towards enlightening individuals with primary education are hampered by fewer funds. Can a student go to IIT’s and IIM’s without proper primary education? For- - Primary education is compulsory for a person to build his/her personality but due to the under developed nature of India, not every individual receives primary education. - Government should make a conscious effort to make more people literate rather than concentrating their sum on a small and confined population.

The special treatments, effortlessness, cleanliness, and advanced facilities provided in private hospitals across the country make us rush to them in cases of simple or serious illness. We cannot deny that the level of comfort a patient and his caretakers receive in private hospitals is far advanced in comparison to what we find in government run hospitals. However, you will be shocked to know that in a metro city like Kolkata where numerous private hospitals have sprung, it’s still only the two government hospitals in the city -SSKM and RG Kar -that have a burn unit. Some of the private hospitals have burn treatment unit but they are equipped with lesser facilities that makes them treat only patients with 50% burn. In serious cases, the patient has to be carried to the government hospital. That makes us think whether it is private hospital or the government ones that are more reliable.

Dowry is evil but so is the misuse of dowry harassment law

Ever since ancient times of the Vedas, dowry has been a tormenting part of Indian marriages. Sad but true the evil of killing the girl child, which is one of the worst crime against women, came up from the practice of dowry system. In ancient days, when the evil cause was more seriously followed by people of all castes, the poor ones thought of killing the girl child when they were born to get rid of paying heavy amounts as dowry. Enlightenment came, reforms were made, yet these evil practices continue to ruin lives of women everywhere. In 1961, Dowry Prohibition Act was passed, but still more than 10,000 dowry cases are registered every year. Some of these are genuine complaints of tortured women but then there are some cases which mark the misuse of this law. The home ministry has recently asked all state governments to be judicious in invoking the stringent anti-dowry section of IPC in matrimonial disputes as the provision may be used as weapons rather than shields by disgruntled wives.

And these are exactly the two quantities which the Mobile Wallet seeks to bring together i.e. save time while spending and managing money. A mobile wallet in simple terms is a system of making payments. It is just a method of paying. The difference between online payment services (like we encounter during online shopping) and mobile wallet is that you can use this wallet to make payments in a physical store too! It’s just like you swiping your card in a store or giving cash to pay, but will be much easier than card or cash. So now there would be no worries of forgetting your ‘wallet’!
